The Project Saga Continues...

I found the most unbelievably perfect dress for my steampunk Alice...who has changed from my MNF DES, Esme to my Soulkid Mayu Hybrid, Plaedra. She will need a new wig (which is on it's way) which was inspired my the style of Tim Burton's Alice character. i will post that later. The dress was made by the fab doll seamstress/artist Charie Willson. I also *cough, cough* have been making some other plans and purchases for this huge project! The exquisite craftsmanship and detail in the dress cannot  be fully captured in photographs, but I will try to get some more detail shots this weekend. I had a ball photoshopping a photo of my Alice and White Rabbit today and had to share.

Here is the Updated  acquisition list:
1. MSD minimee Ichabod Crane/Johnny Depp head in normal skin was ordered 1/13/09! The opportunity came up for mini size heads with DIM, so I jumped on that and quickly got a group order together with some other Johnny fans on DOA. Hope to have an update on the sculpt progress soon!
2. Just won an awesome clock teaset on Ebay...hope the size works for my crew!
3. Ordered a basic grey Pipos Cheshire without face-up, but with tail A, because I needed a Cheshire Cat  desperately in my cast.  I cannot believe the perfect timing of that  new release! He was ordered from DDE during the Pipos promotion and I will be getting a chess piece bonus! How cool is that? I am also working with  Meda, an etsy seamstress I have worked with in the past on coming up with a custom outfit for my Cheshire. It was inspired by the Jokey Cheshire's outfit, but also on some other pipos outfit. Should be interesting to see what mEda comes up with, she is wildly creative.

4. My husband made the most awesome steampunk copper tree for the scene where Alice meets the Cheshire cat. Check it out!
5. Got an awesome custom monacle for Mal from a gal who makes them on DOA!  Very reasonable and well made too!

What is on the drawing board for the next few months:
1. Start the set/stage construction. We have talked about the basic plan, but then my husband will be painting several backdrops for different scenes. I need to do a story board to work up the design concepts for them.
2. Make some sculpty props for the various scenes. Still working on what all that will entail.
3. Get some bloody doll chairs for the tea party scene! Have'nt found exactly what I am looking for yet and don't want to spend a fortune either! Will make the table.
4. Do face-ups on the Johnny head and Cheshire. May need to commission some clothes for The Mad Hatter when I figure out what body he will get.
5. Will need to embellish my sleepy hollow inspired dress to make it more Red Queenish with a steampunk vibe. I have some ideas...

Well, that is enough for today I guess. Here are some new photos!

My prototype face-up design for my Cheshire. May be tweaked a bit, but will be this general idea:

I knew someday I would find the perfect use for this spooky black and white photo!

Steampunk Projects and Musings: The Introduction

Hello all steampunk enthusiasts! Especially those of you who collect BJD's.

I recently have become fascinated by all that is steampunk, so decided to design a set/stage for my ball joint dolls for my Steampunk in Wonderland idea photoshoot. Now this is not a small undertaking by any means. The characters I will attempt to costume and style are Alice (of course!). the Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit,  Queen of Hearts, and  one of her attendents. I am still considering whether to attempt the Cheshire cat, but  am not sure just having my dollzone fox wearing a steampunk gasmask with a cheshire grin photoshopped in will really pull off the idea. I toyed with buying a DZ cat petdoll and customizing it to suit my needs, but just could'nt bring myself to pay 165.00 for one when I have acquired my other ones for free or close to it.

I have acquired the costumes for Alice and The Queen of Hearts.( Black and white striped Sleppy Hollow inspired dress).which was made by a very talented Ebay seller by the user name of Edenfairy. The two steampunk dresses I bought ready made for my MSD Souldoll/Doll Factory Hybrid MSD (who I think will be my  Alice character and is not the MNF DES modeling the Alice dress at far left!), and my AOD Rao girl, Prudence, who will be the Queen of Hearts. I must say I am still rather torn about which doll the MNF DES (shown) or my new Souldoll hybrid will be Alice or not. They both have qualities that will work very well.  Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

I also commissioned  and have received the outfits for the attendant for the Queen and for the White Rabbit , and pieces of the Mad Hatter outfit that were made by a seamstress I found on DOA  by the user name of Midnight at the Oasis or Elfmoon. My DZ petdolls Jasper and Malekai are modeling these fine outfits above. The attendant outfit needs to be steampunked up a notch or two. I am thinking some jewlery or embellishing his beret with some clock pieces may work.

I am extremely excited by the upcoming film version of Alice in Wonderland being filmed as we speak by Tim Burton. My project could be greatly influenced by this film and so I am desperately hoping that lots of photos and information about the film gets leaked out over the next year before it is released.

More details later about props and other dolls I am either working on or hoping to acquire for this project...Stay tuned.
